Has anyone had to paint 2×2 grid for a hung ceiling? I’ve got to do some renovations to a local first aid squad building and they have black grid that looks like it’s from 1972. I’m hoping there is a paint in a spray can that matches the white grid used today.

I have a friend who's been doing susp. ceilings for 20 years, and I know they make a spray paint to do grid, but I don't think I've seen it at the orange box. I know he washes it down really well first, ( not sure if it's a de-glosser, or just a cleaner) might be tsp. I would try an acoustical ceiling supply store. Don't know if they have one in your area, there's a few here. They also deal in drywall and steel studs, etc.
I'll check w/ him tommorow and get a brand name for ya.

Talked to my bud today...He said that while they do make a paint specifically for doing the grid and leaving the tile in place, when they re-do ceiling grid, it's tsp and rustoleum. Said they actually did some with a sponge roller and it worked great. Also said with the black grid to plan on a couple coats to cover.Hope this helps ya out....
