I’m finishing my basement by painting it. Do I have to prepare the concrete in anyway beforehand?

Yes, put dye in the mix. Available in many colors from better stocked concrete/masonry suppliers, it can't wear off, chips won't show much and is no added work for anyone. Just a few bucks.
*Once you've painted a basement, you can't go back. Better be sure that you don't later wish to seal the walls before slapping on the paint now. Better to stain, I'd say.
*Does staining seal the concrete? What's the real difference between painting and staining? Thanks
