I am looking for suggestions on how to stage ladders or scaffolding in order to safely paint the gable end sides of the house. The porch is 8ft wide and the porch roof is 4/12 pitch. The peak of the roof is about 15ft above the porch roof.

Well you can get ladder standoffs and levelers for pretty much a lot less than a trip to the er. I guess I'd just paint the thing- 15 feet in the air? whaddya want scaffold for- I can pis that high.
Is the site sloped?
Sorry- I don't get it.
*Dan,I'm guessing the porch is an aluminum enclosure roof he cannot stand on?Doug,Is that what it is?Mike
*got it- you should be able to put a short extension ladder on the porch roof and a taller extension on the high side and plank between- planks on ladder jacks. Ladder levelers as nes- ask at your local paint store - they can fix you up.
*I know your pain - I think. The porch is 8' wide but 14 or so feet deep (long). The porch roof is a shed roof whose peak is just below the 2nd story windows?First thought - build platforms (2'x3') with 4/12 pitch and use these two "level off" your shed roof. Screw some cleats to the platforms for the ladder legs and you are set.But see my posts on scaffolding - renting scaffolding is very reasonable especially if you are doing some scraping, paint removal, etc. etc. Give us a better idea of the porch with respect to the house.
*Boy did it take a while for me to get this.Wrap around porch under the gables you have to paint? What is the roofing makeup? Ground conditions around house?
