Hi,
Wanted to get peoples opinion of painting a garage floor. I have seen what seems to be some good garage paints at the DIY places, but wanted to hear from people who may have tried them.
Do they work? Do they wear well?
Thanks,
Steve

Hi, Doc-
There are a few packaged products for painting garage floors. I have used two and both were epoxy. The Rustoleum is a fancier package with cleaner and an acid solution to etch the floor surface. It also has confetti-like material that you sprinkle on right after you paint- totally cosmetic. I paid about $60 for this and it can do a two car garage.
I honestly can't remember the brand of the other one but it worked just fine.
I put down two coats and recommend that procedure.
I've dragged ranges and crates across the floor with nothing but superficial scratches that disappear with a damp cloth. Oil cleans right up instead of soaking into the floor.
Definately a worthwhile project. Just make sure that you get garage floor paint and not just floor paint. The latter will be coming up when you roll a car over the floor.
Have fun-

I recently painted my garage floor with Behr (Home Depot) epoxy garage paint. It worked well. The most important part of the process was the etching of the concrete floor. The directions for etching the concrete--which called for a dilute acid solution-- were not adequate for my garage floor. I tried the diluted acid and ended up just pouring undiluted acid on the floor. This did the trick. I got good adhesion, but, because I had a smooth-trowled floor, it took several gallons of acid to do the etching. Wear a mask!!
