I have seen many discussions about what type of paint, stain etc. to use on Hardiplank. Will be applying this siding on my house, but am not sure that I will finish job in time to paint (it may be too cold outside). Siding is pre-primed. Is that enough to make it through the winter? Can I possibly paint siding inside (first coat) before putting it up?

I have prepainted with super results.....
You will need to keep your hands clean while installing...We washed ours often and used clean rags, etc.

*Even better, put a coat before installing and apply another next spring. That way you can cover the nail heads and caulk. Then enjoy a great looking job for yrs to come.
*I have installed much Hardie plank in the winter and have had no problems painting in the spring. If you install it the way we do you would'nt have nail heads to paint. One great thing about Hardie plank is the blind nailing.....

Thanks for the info, guys. I live in Hudson Valley region (NY) and my builders are totally unfamiliar with this product (as are most of the tradesmen I spoke with). Got the "cedarmill" 6 1/4 inch and it looks great! I am putting a lot of sweat equity and money into this house, and could not stand the thought of driving home to vinyl siding.
HomeBldr, can I blind nail the 6 1/4 "? Thought you could only do it with 4" exposure.

Johnny,
In my experience with Hardi...we have to drill the corners for the end nails. Without a hole the corner chips off. Little dusty but over all a very easy product for the volunteers to work with.
