What's wrong with your local paint store? When you figure in the useful life a good brush, the couple of bucks you spend helping out your local "small guy" is peanuts.

*What sort of brushes? Are you looking for specialty brushes not stocked in your local stores? If so, the companies that make the special products usually have the brushes to go with them. If you are looking for regular paint brushes, you will be paying in shipping anything you save in price. If you are looking for brushes in bulk for one-time use projects, check with craft stores. They sell low quality brushes for less than paint stores, but it depends on your intended purpose. I wouldn't use those brushes for much more than turkey basting, certainly not a final coat of poly.lynn

*This time I'm looking for a varnish brush with chinex bristles. They're made by companies like Wooster or Best Liebco, but they're not "paint" brushes perse. The local stores don't stock them and seem reluctant to order just one or two. Additionally, they're only open while I'm at work. Thus the interest in the ability to find stuff online. It's more of a convenuience thing than a cost thing.

*If that is the kind of stuff that you are looking for then you need to be looking at "finishingh supplies" and there are many people that have that kind of stuff. I suspect that many of the woodworking sites do.This is Jeff Jewitts and he has a number of specialized supplies including brushes.http://www.homesteadfinishing.com/

*You might try http://www.painterstoolbox.com and there are also some links at painterschatroom.com. There are a lot of reasons that people order supplies online or mail order. It isnt always price, there are some places that dont have all of the supplies that you can get in a big city. There are also a lot of local stores that dont deserve my business because they dont offer me anyting extra like good service or knowledge of their products for the higher prices that they charge. I dont mind paying a little extra if I am getting something for it, just like people are willing to pay a little more for a contractor that gives them something additional for the higher price. Sometimes it is for higher quality work, sometimes it is just that you treat them better than someone else has.

*> there are some places that dont have all of the supplies that you can get in a big cityThis is an excellent point. There are plenty of products that exist, but are not for sale in Marion, IN. And the stores will tell you the product doesn't exist!Rich Beckman

*Once again, I stand corrected. I'll go sit in the corner now. :-)

*Rich, I particularly like it when I've got something in my hand and some moron is telling me there isn't any such thing. By then he has had it in his hands and turned it all around having a good look at it, but still insists there ain't no such thing and I'm going to have to make do with what he has. Joe H
