My mother in law wants the Vinyl shutters on her house painted. Is there a ‘special’ paint I have to look for to do this? I don’t want to do this more than once 🙂

Krylon Fusion is marketed as being a good paint for plastic. I usually clean whatever plastic I paint well, let it dry and wipe it with lacquer thinner, naptha or acetone before painting, soon after wiping with the solvent. Anything that will soften the surface will make the pain adhere better. I have a piece of PVC pipe from the old furnace on my house and when I looked at the red brick and dirty white pipe, it looked ridiculous. Cleaned, wiped and painted with regular spray paint and it hasn't peeled or chipped at all. Not sure but it may have even been Rust-Oleum. I'll look when I go to my basement.
Sherwin Williams "WeatherPerfect" exterior is rated for vinyl.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm kind of hesitant asking a salesman in Lowes or HD, thought I'd ask the guys that use the stuff.
We've painted vinyl shutters with regular [acrylic] latex house paint, with no problems. Clean real well first, of course, and it probably helps if they're a bit weathered to start with.

Thanks,
The shutters are pretty weathered & I plan to hit them with the pressure washer to make sure all the crud is off. We're in South Alabama, the sun is pretty hard on dark colored vinyl trim products. I wanted to ask about the type of paint because I don't want to have to do it again 3 months from now.
We used BM's semigloss exterior, in a medium brown. Repainted once after about 10 years, because the paint was faded (and we were painting all the trim) -- adhesion was still good.
If your view never changes you're following the wrong leader
The Duration line from SW is supposed to be the best stuff out there for vinyl and other synthetic products ( like Azek ). Not cheap at $50 gal but life time warranty.

Are you sure that they are VINYL?
There are many different types of plastic.
And look at the plastic shutters at HD and Lowes.
They will say DO NOT PAINT them.
Even the whites. And they give a different part number to use if you want to paint them.
BTW XIM makes a special primer for plastics.
