Hey carpenters and remodelers,
Have a question about the proper way to put up a partition wall in a remodel situation. Do you put your plates in first, and then stick build it? Or do you build it flat and tip it up? The reason I am asking is if you tip it up it is to big to tip into place, and if you do tip it up how do you measure accurately?
Thanks in advance for replies.

Platform frame w. double top and bottom plates in place. That way you can stand it up, lift it one and a half inches, and then slide it into place. If in a basement, you've already got the bottom bottom plate glued and shot to the concrete floor. In other locations, you need a double top plate to tie perpendicular walls together. With a laser level. it is easy to do the layout on the floor and then place the uppper top plate to the red dot or find locates for a chaulk line. Plenty of wood there gives you good nailing for baseboard and crown.
Thanks Piffin,
Should a' thought of that.

Sooner or later you'll have a condition where it's faster to put it in piece by piece, not so often ,though. For non-bearing partitions, a single top plate will do. If you build it on the floor and tip it up you'll find you'll have to rack it diaganally, then tap it in .
