I have a dilema. Several years ago I struck up a relationship with a fellow work alone contractor, which was to help each other out when needed and if possible. A few years later an opportunity to bid on a large high end job came my way and I approached him if he would be interested to bid it with me. Because of the community the job was located in we were able to price the job to be very profitable. I, then we, decided if we got it it would be 50/50. We got the job and another larger right after. We have since been working together in this loose relationship 80% of the time. My jobs in my name and his jobs in his name. One large job was brought in by him and a few small jobs.
A few months ago we bid a job that came through me. This job was closer to home and and not in the high end community. Nonetheless it was still a good size project. But we did not get the job the reason being that the price was too high. I happen to know the customer through a connection with our childrens school and know that he has not yet given out the job. I am going into the winter without much work and I think that I could get the job on my own by pricing the same job a little tighter and without my “partner’s” profit.
Any thoughts?
