Paslode Cordless not firing

mkbug | Posted in Tools for Home Building on June 28, 2006 06:40am

I’ve cleaned it and it still doesn’t fire. I hear the fan but I don’t think I’m getting the spark. Any way to test it?

    How old is your gas?

I had a problem that sounded a bit like that. When I pushed down the gun and pulled the trigger to fire a nail, I would hear the fan but it wouldn't fire. It turns out that there was a nail jammed in the works, which prevented the drive piston from reverting to its rest position.

When I took the combustion chamber head off, I saw that the piston was stuck mid-way in its bore. After undoing the latched cover that's at the business end of the nail gun, I discovered that a previously-misfired nail had jammed itself into the carriageway, in turn jamming the drive finger that's attached to the piston, preventing the piston from moving.

    Hopefully you've already tried this:
New gas cartridge ( make sure the little plastic thingy is snapped down and lined up in the gun)
    Charge battery
    Full rack of nails

I have the Pasload framer (imct?)
These steps usually clear problem, though you may have a physical jam like above poster said.
    Good luck.

Anybody have the battery keep coming loose or falling out? Annoying as all get out on a ladder!!!

I ran a couple of wraps of electrical tape around my batteries, now they fit nice and snug. No more disconnects.

my fan may run,....then the battery gets loose, then when i push on the battery, it fires.

it's a pain, but this could be the proplem.

if youve got battery problems and pushing the battery in usually fixes it, look at both money ends of the battery itself, after a few days of constant use they get some kind of dark residue on them and lightly sanding this off will take care of the problem.

My battery was too loose too.Had to hold it in to fire sometimes. Finally battery fell out and hit floor ; spliting case. I glued it back together again with epoxy which mite have thickened it a bit but now it fits tite.

Plaslode must know of this defect but just keeps on making them anyway so u have to but new batteries or throw the whole gun  off roof in frustration.

hey ron,it's just that it's loose....the "couple of wraps" of electrical tape is a good idea.having said all this, i wouldn't trade my paslode for anything....cept maybe a 48" belt sander.

I just had the same problem with my trim nailer. Opened a "new" pack of fuel cells and  the trouble started. The fuel cells have an expiration date on the bottom. I realized this after cleaning the gun and still no fire. Bought new gas and it works fine. I hadn't used the gun  for over a year,  never heard about the gas being dated.

thanks for the replies. There are no nails jamming the system as I took the whole assembly apart to clean. The piston moves freely new. I'll try some new gas to see if that is the problem.

We run five paslode framers and have about three of them working at any one time.  Man they can be frustrating.

We've had your problem before.  I really don't know what causes it but it seems to go away for a little while after a good cleaning.  Use the degreaser spray and get the gunk of the spark plug tip.  And like stated before make sure the gas tip is pressed all the way onto the cylinder.

Right now two of our guns will fire all day, but the driver won't catch a nail on its way down!!  I think that the piston and driver are not going all the way up so that a new nail can slide under it.  I have no idea how to fix that and I am taking it to the guy who services them for me.

I don't know what is more of a hassle air hoses or these guns.

          Are you using Paslode nails?

          Beware. RFID is coming.

          1. EJCinc | Jun 30, 2006 07:48pm | #15

Yep we use the 30 deg. Paslode nails.

I talked to the guy fixing it and he said the cylinder was clean when the piston was pressed all the way down.  But it had a lot of build up beneath the piston, which you wouldn't be able to clean out unless you took the piston out.  I don't think most people remove the piston when they clean them, and he said it was unusual for it to build up there like that.

It should work fine now, I hope.

Thanks to all. It was bad gas. Bought new gas cartridges and it was firing up a storm. Check you gas people...

I suspect that the gas can leak out over time. Similar to battery "leakage" I suppose.

My 250li has a good spark when the head is off but none when attached. What am I missing?
