I'm installing a new vinyl patio door on my house. It is the kind that you screw a flange onto the sheathing of the house. I have aluminum siding that I will be tearing off and re using.
Do I need to install flashing around the door or is caulk enough?
*Hey, Lone Wolf, Lone Cat here. Let me be the first to welcome you and say we need just slightly more information..............oops, now I see your post. Flashing is best. How exposed is it, any overhang? Your house, or a customer? Can you get that stick on rubber stuff in there?
*thanks. there is a 2 foot overhang and on the East side of the house. I am a DIYer, but pretty experienced with remodeling projects(know a little about everything and a lot about nothing!). What's that stick on rubber stuff?
*The hardest thing about being a lone wolf is carrying that damn door unit around back of the house by yourself. The stick on stuff is just about like roof ice and water shield, but comes in a narrower roll. I think some of the bigger home centers carry it now, unless you live in Arkansas.
*Lone Wolf, I believe lonecat is talking about a material called "window wrap". It is foil on one side and a sticky rubber on the interior side. Skip
*you're absolutely right lonecat! and when I ask my male pup to help he yelps and whines. guess I'll have to get the alpha female to help!
