Hello:
I am in the planning stages of a small outdoor lighting project for my home. Basically several pathway lights and perhaps some sconces on a small planter wall for now (to be expanded in the future). Having visited the DIY dept. stores, I would like to do better than plastic fixtures. I am looking for ideas and also for suggestions and recommendations on brands, volts, sources etc.

Some of the nicest "bollards" I've seen are simple posts built up of one-by with "louvers" cut in two opposite sides and a plain weatherproof socket with lamp mounted above the louvers.
There's also a nice line made of copper fixtures - Nightscape I seem to recall - and I thought it would be relatively easy to fashion similar simple fixtures from copper water pipe and fittings and some sheet copper and art glass thrown in.
*I've used auto lamps and sockets to make my own fixtures. The trick is getting a socket with a ground wire. They're usually made for boats. The fixtures can be made from tin cans, soft copper tubing, plastic bottles, etc. It's pretty low tech and funky, but definitely cheaper than Nitescape.
