Hi guys,
I know there have been many posts on this topic, but I am a little concerned. I own and use the porter cable clipped head nailer. I have noticed a tendency for it to double fire, which is not good. I was wondering if anyone had problems with this particular model too?
Would replacing the bounce trigger with a sequential trigger fix the problem? I thought about getting rid of it but I wouldn’t want to sell someone something dangerous.

Double firing is a potential problem with any nail gun set up to “bump fireâ€. What typically happens, when a gun double fires, is the operator holds the gun too rigid resisting the recoil. The gun still recoils but just enough to reset the safety so it can fire again. This process happens so fast the operator has no chance of getting off the trigger to avoid the second fire. I’ve seen guys go from double firing every nail to zero, once they learn not to fight the recoil or attempt to hold the nail gun firm against the work.
I believe some nail guns have less travel in the safety reset than others, which make those far more likely to double fire when fighting the recoil.

Thanks Scott,
I have noticed that when they gun recoils, It doesn't double fire as much, I was thinking about replacing the trigger for those times when I nail in tight, confined spaces where it is hard or awkward for the nailer to recoil.
Thanks to all for the info.

Chris, I had the same problem with my nailer. If you call PC they will send you the new trigger kit for free. Very easy to install. -Ed
New PC trigger design allows swap between bounce and sequenced fire. Allowing the nailer to rebound will help stop double fires in the meantime.
I assume you have the older trigger, and PC will send out the replacement with 2-3 weeks lead time.
