In the process of tearing down and rebuilding my pergola patio and replacing all the fascia board. I am located in SoCal so we don’t see a lot of rain, but water has indeed made its mark on the old pergola.
The way it was explained to me is that I would want to place the ice and water shield between the roof deck and the tar paper, but I am not sure if it should wrap underneath the deck or not? Then slide the drip edge over the tar paper and use sealant, especially where the drip edge gets screwed (the screws will tear the ice/water shield) in place (can no longer nail from the top in this scenario). The gutter will slide underneath the drip edge metal over the fascia and screwed in place. The 4×6 beams will then be hung underneath the gutter.
Does this sound about right?

OK. Take the roof down to the decking. Apply your ice shield (two courses if your code requires it). You can let the ice shield hang over the edge if you are in a zone that has ice damning. I do not put tar paper over the ice shield except where it laps at the top of the two courses. Place the drip rail on and nail (or screw if you prefer) it through the ice shield into the deck. The ice shield is self sealing and will not leak. Use a shingle starter course like GAF. This will seal drip edge to the ice shield just like tape and provide the glue tab for the next row of shingles.
Well, we are not replacing the shingles (3yr old) and just need to put everything back together but with an added focus on waterproofing and sealing.
You were talking about adding ice shield and new drip molding. The only way to apply is to remove shingles. good luck
Is there an alternative course of action available here? Henry's or a sealant like M1 (https://www.bestmaterials.com/detail.aspx?ID=15586&gclid=CjwKCAjwwab7BRBAEiwAapqpTF1oyOxksHAjp3NKJlmgtT0bndcM917XyoFvNs9j-arLomMDy_w--RoCxOEQAvD_BwE) ?
