Hi All,
I painting a built in seating unit I made for my kitchen. It’s constructed out of ply and poplar. I’m using a brush on oil base finish and I’ve been told that adding Penetrol allows the paint to flow out better and will yield a better finish.
I tried a test on a scrap of ply and there doesn’t seem to be any noticeable difference. However it’s only a small piece of ply.
Any thoughts on the use of Penetrol?
Thanks
JM

I've used it with oil
but it's been awhile-I'm not a painter.
At the time, it did make a noticeable difference. Did you mix according to the instructions? I flattened out brush strokes.
Also good it is said, to paint over rust-stops it...........................
There's a product by them for latex as well.-flo trol I believe.
I lioke it for some stuff. It depends what paint you are using. Lot of the better ones already have good flow and adhesion.
Adding too much Pemnetrol can cause yellowing in the whiter colours too
We used to use it in oil based primers. Also used in oil based finish paints when we needed longer working time. Does anyone still use oil based paints? Kurfee's made an oil based Gloss that just glowed; one quart of Penetrol to a gallon made it workable in Febuary ('86 or so).
