I have a customer who would like to have a pergo floor installed over her deck. The deck is totally enclosed around the perimeter. The ceiling was never insulated and the floor is the original deck. There is no heat in the enclosure. I’ve installed several pergo and wilsomardt floors, but I am concerned how to properly insulate and lay a base for this situation. I plan on calling the manufacturer for thier advice, but figured I’d post here to see what you guys think is the best way to go. Any suggestions fella’s?

I don't think Pergo would be a very good choice in the situation you're describing. I'm not a great fan of the stuff but it does have its place (I suppose)... The fact it will be subjected to greater expansion/contraction variables because it's not in an insulated area makes me skeptical of its viability in this application. I'd be more inclined to go with a quarry tile or slate floor if the structure is solid enough for deflection not to be an issue. Of course this would entail the use of backer board and the height considerations of additional thickness but in my mind, this would not keep me up nights like Pergo would. If she insists on Pergo, I wouldn't give her a warranty of the job because you can't be held responsible for a bad materials' choice. Just my humble opinion. Good luck.
