I am a resident of Southern New Jersey, and have recently been asked to demo an existing set of interior wood basement stairs (from basement to first floor. landing already present 48′ wide x 3’ft deep) and fabricate / install a new set of wood stringers (3 sets), treads and closed risers.
Do I need to obtain a permit, submit design specs, or contact the local Building office prior to starting the work? Would I need to obtain a framing permit, demo permit…???
Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated!!!!!

Why do you ask us folks? We don't live there. Ask your local building authority. I know of places out in the midwest where there is no authority whatsoever, and all residential building is done without permits. If that is the case where you are, go ahead and do the job. But if you have a local inspector, don't tell him I told you so.
