I’m thinking of using PEX for water supply lines. I’m wondering if PEX gives water any yucky plastic taste. I know the manufacturers say it’s not a problem, but I’d like to know if anyone’s had any experience/call-backs on the issue.

I have PEX in my house and never noticed any taste. I have built a number of houses that had PEX installed and never heard a complaint. (about that anyway ;-)
The plumber I am using right now likes CPVC - he says you get better flow rates. He says that the inside diameter of the pex fittings restricts flow a bit since they go inside the pipe rather than outside like with CPVC or copper. CPVC has less freeze resistance than PEX. CPVC does raise the price of the house a bit.
