Pier & Beam Foundation – base/pad height?
As a family we’ve renovated the small house here in East Tx over last few year and wish to build addition. Looking online at various photos of constructing pier & beam foundations (which this house has), I see some with the concrete base/pad above ground level then the concrete blocks placed, and other photos/instructions with the base/pad below ground level and the first row of blocks below ground.
Which is the correct/preferred method or does it not really matter?

If you have a frostline there which is probable in much of east TX then your footing needs to be below frost line. Those little precast pads like shown on the under the crawl space pic are insufficient in many cases.
Thanks so much for your reply :)
