Hi,
I am installing some new siding and the home has both the old Celuotex Black Board and a newer addtion that has plywood on it. I was thinking of adding Tyvek and now maybe adding 1/2 of Pink Foam for insulation. My concern is moisture from inside the home being trapped by the Pink Foam or the Tyvek and condensing between the foam and Celuotex or plywood. The home walls have fiberglass bat insulation with the paper vapor barrier. I was also thinking of have the walls cellulosed for more insulation depending on the price. The walls are 2×4 framed.(Built in the 70’s.) The siding will probably be vinyl, aluminum or cement board. What would be the best way to approach this project to get it weather tight and not cause an inside moisture vapor problem? Yes forgot to putin homes location it is South East Wisconsin, between Madison & Milwaukee.
Thanks for your input!

You'll probably get a few differing opinions on the subject
some of which will be based on whether you're north or south of the mason dixon line.
Yeah, it would kinda help to know where this house is. Maybe down in Kentucky or Virginia what you propose would be OK, but get up in Minnesota or New Hampshire and the 1/2" foam will be too thin to insulate much and will only serve to trap moisture and cause condensation. (Tyvek is not a problem, though, and is strongly recommended especially if you go with plastic or metal siding, since the wind blows right through those.)
Sometimes mixing things accomplishes great things; witness the way a little carbon turns soft iron into strong steel! Othertimes, you don't do so well ... like the way alcohol and coffee gives you a wide-awake drunk!
Why not go whole hog ... remove the fiberglass as well, and have someone spray-foan the walls from the outside? Presto! No competing water-proof layers.
Hi, I do not want to remove Celuotex or Plywood to remove fiberglass batts. If I would go that route the cost would go up dramaticlly and other issues could arise. (Older Home Surprises.)
