placement of european hinges (heights)
I need to hang some doors, on a built-in I just made , using european hinges. Is there a rule of thumb that is used to determine the heights of the top and bottom hinges , for normal sized cabinet doors, or do we use the old trusted eyeball on the 35mm cups. A template for the off-set drilling is on order. Thank you ,in advance for taking the time.

'Bout 3" from the top/bottom
'Bout 3" from the top/bottom edge of the door to the centerline of the hinge. But adjust to avoid any potential voids in the stiles where they're mortised, etc.
type of door might dictate.....
so you have enough room inside the box, I put the center of the hinge from the bottom/top of the box about 2-1/2". For full overlay doors, that's fine and puts the hinge center on the door at about 3-7/8".
That'll work for most door setups.
Don't want to cramb the drill motor in there to drill for the screws.
Oh, and you asked if there was a "standard". Supposedly European cabinets (at least the modular ones a la Ikea) are built using a standard pitch of something like 15mm. Sides are drilled with holes at that pitch, and hinges and the like are always spaced to mate with those holes.
But unless you're interfacing with European prefab pieces it doesn't really matter.
