Placement of wood to carpet transition?

I was going to start installing wood floors in our hallway tomorrow, but I don’t know where to place the piece of wood that will go from the hall (wood) to the bedroom, which will be carpet. I have the transition piece already. It’s about 5″ wide, to match our flooring. For one bedroom, it will be perpendicular to the flooring, then parallel to the other. The interior framing is 2X4, so even including the drywall, the transition is a bit wider than the doorway.
How far into the room should the transition go? Should it be centered in the doorway? Also, the doors are not in yet. Can the jamb sit on top of the transition, which is level with the flooring? If anyone has any other tips or sees something I haven’t thought of yet, it’s all very appreciated!

I like the edge of the transitionof two different floorings to fall in the middle of the the door slab when it's closed. W/ a 1 3/8" door, pull back 11/16" from the face of the sheetrock
Center of the closed door.
Snort does it like most do-when the door is open, a nice transition-when closed-no notice of any transition. You're wider pc will only tell the tale when you place it opp. the flooring run.
As far as the jamb over top-
If the carpet is turned and tucked (rolled over and stapled ) right up to the transition, then no moving of that pc will be necessary when you change out the carpet. And, it's in the same plane as the flooring-treat it like floor-jamb on top. However, notch it to go over the edge of that transition, the carpet might not be that thick (won't be) and you don't want to see a gap.
Love it!
Less is more when trim is concerned.................well, you know what I mean. Self trimming or good fit is what I try to sell. Builtup moldings have their place, but it's not to hide something previous and unplanned.
thanks.
