I own the Delta 22 560 planer. Im starting to get some snipe on the ends of the boards. But its only on one side of the wood and on wide boards. By wide I mean wider than 5-6 inches. Can anyone out there tell me what I need to do to correct this. Any help would be appreaciated.

Often it is technic.
If you just push the boards in one end and wait for the them to drop out the other there is a lot of force with the board cantalevered out there and only one roller to hold it down.
When you start the feed hold the far end of the board up. It can be 10-20 degrees off the table and the planner will push it down as it starts feeding.
Likewise when the board get just about done grap the outfeed and lift it up.
make sure that the board is supported correctly on both sides of the cutterhead, a long table is helpful, or roller stands.
Ron, sounds like you didn't have this problem previously. If so, it might be worth checking the adjustments. I think your model has a cutterhead lock ......... maybe the problem is there. As previously mentioned, an outfeed roller or table will help as will feeding boards in touching end to end .......... the snipe will be limited to the beginning of the first board and the end of the last board.
Yea I didnt have this problem before. Its sort of a new one. Ive had this planer since delta starting making it. Its been real good up ntil recently. Im hoping the cutter head isnt out of alignment. Darkworksite4: When the job is to small for everyone else, Its just about right for me"
Ron,
It has been a few years since I worked on one of these but I think there is an adjustment to retension the outfeed rollers. That might help.

Make sure there's no shorts snagged in there, too. ;o)

I'm assuming the model you've said is an portable? I've never used an portable. I've got an Bridgewood 15". But, it sounds to me that one or all knives are not set correctly. I'd try resetting every knife so you know they're deadnuts. Run a piece through and see what happens. If that isn't it, your cutterhead might be out of alignment. I've heard of the portables going to hell after 3-4 years of moderate use. I don't know if you can fix that or not. Good luck....John E. Nanasy
Im gonna take it to Delta and tell them to fix it. I think the head is out of alignment or the rollor bushings are worn. Im gonna take it to Delta this Friday and tell them to fix it. If the estimate is more then half the cost of a new tool about $200bucks) Ill just go buy a Makita. Ive been wanting to try their new one.
