Thought I’d show my most recent cabinetry. This entertainment center houses a 42′ plasma t.v. that rolls out on two 150# full extension glides for back access. The upper row of drawers holds 900 cd’s, about 2/3 of the clients collection. The middle bottom is a subwoofer, big sucker.
Finished this Friday night at 8 pm.

Very nice! How about some construction details - materials and the like.
The big TVs were almost impossible to access without some kind of rear door. Mounting the plasma on slides was an excellent solution.
As TVs were becoming larger and larger. The cabinetry needed to enclose and support those monsters became the home theatre entertainment wall. Big TVs, big cabinets. It was a nice chunk of change at the end of a job, usually designed with the homeowners. The man of the house usually got right into it.
Lately, I've seen alot of plasmas mounted on walls above fireplaces (like a trophy, so everybody can see its a plasma) What you have done here is much, much better.
Nice work!
The drawers in the lowers are a classy touch.

Agreed. Very nice. It'd be a credit to any house.
Wow! Just very nice woodworking! How long did it take ya to finish it?

Thanks for the comments. The whole thing start to finish took me about eight days. The sides are 16" deep with 3/8" tempered polished glass shelves. The center is 24" deep. The plasma is mounted to the front of a drawer basically. Imagine a 5" deep drawer with a face 38" high. The glide is a 150# rated full extension 18" deep. This allowed for the 5 1/2" depth of the plasma to set back flush with the front of the cabinet.
I kid you not I was sweating bullets when we mounted this puppy and rolled it out for the first time.
The drawers across the middle has inserts that hold the about 2/3 of the clients cd collection, 900. Man I gotta a lot of cd's but not that many.
The dark center is a big honkin subwoofer.
Here's what they had before.. and the next is a after.
Clean work, very nice.
I used to do high end A/V installs and the like, and for the future, you might look into plasma brackets. Companies like Cheif and others make all sorts of brackets that would have been just the ticket in this situation.
The upside is the reduced liabilty should, God forbid, anything happen, and the reduction in engineering and construction time. And the stress reduction! Plus they have wire managment channels and can swing and tilt for off axis viewing.
The downside is, of course, the cost. But like anything, mark it up, and reduce your time and liabilty.

I like how you extended/ deepened the side bays and applied a continuous length of crown moulding above. Great idea regarding mounting the unit on a drawer face, but why 31" tall? Could you have installed the drawer at mid height instead, or would that have caused too much wobble?
How does the unit pull out? I did not notice any type of pull. Is it the reveal below?
Nice job!

Sorry for the slow responce. The high face on the drawer was due to the spacing of the four mounting holes. To hang this puppy by the top two might allow for the unit to tilt somewhat.
As to pulling out the design of the screen allows for an edge your fingers can easily pull from.
Thanks
Wow!! The lines, the symmetry, beautiful, beautiful work! T R
Very nice! Great design and workmanship.
Hope you don't mind if I steal your idea of the rollout plasma access. :-)
