I hate how a tape job looks at 4:00 in the afternoon no matter how good the drywall
guys are. I’m getting a price on plastering everything. It seems like the way to go if
one can afford it. The first prices I got are, drywall: .18 cents per sq. foot
plaster:1.05 per sq. foot.
The old home I just sold had plaster and I loved it.
Plus three active kids…….more durable io think

Does the taped joint really bother you that much? My house has plaster walls too and when I had to replace some out of date plywood panelling in the family room, I had it priced in plaster and dry wall and you were right. So I ended up dry walling it, taped and skim coated the dry wall. Turned out beautiful, probably too perfect. To a purist, it doesn't have that real plaster feel.

pay for what you like and it is more durble too but with good finishers and a skim coat SR can be just as good without telegraphing the seams. Those extra coats cost extra too though. More like .60

Good and bad with everything.....plaster eventually gets those hairlines cracks all over it......I kinda like that........SR if its done well you dont see a thing......ever! Its just a matter of taste I reckon. I like the "feel" of plaster yet I wouldn't do it in my own home cause I just don't think its worth it in all the extra time it'd take me to do it.......I only have so many hours in the day and theres soooooooo many other thingsI want to do but if you're gonna pay to have it done then..........rock on......so to speak....lol
Be well,
