please; quick suggestions for a most useful lazer site level kit
Hello all – and a happy new year
Been a long time since I posted. The new formats are pleasant to look at, but search functions are baffling, I have a few hours left in the year to decide on a lazer level kit for site work. I want :
Self leveling, rotary, indoor outdoor, horizontal and vertical, all included carrying case, auto off, remote beeper and on off (if possible) etc. I know I may not get everything in one, but thought I would just ask the question to others out there who may be using or recently shopped. expecting to spend $700-$1400. Any suggestions and where to buy would be most apprecaited.

PLS-Pacific Laser Systems.
I have the 180. It doesn't rotate but fans a line quite a bit around-enough to easily adapt to drop ceiling install. Plum or level, plumb and level, and a frozen cross (move it all around, still stays square.
Can be had with a remote sensor.
Small. Does not have a pendulum lock (unless now it does.) Great for going to a kitchen job and knowing iimmediately that the soffit or floor preclude you from fancy assed crown with no room to work....................etc.
I'd look at all that PLS has to offer and see what might be your most usefull tool.
The company stands behind their product, never had trouble reaching them, they've helped out by donating several lasers to the Breaktime Fests which in itself isn't a big deal, but many companies were asked and only a few coughed up-they were one and the most consistant...............eventho the Fest isn't like a big convention or something..................
Best of luck.

Wow , what a break for you, two PLS5 for sale in the classified section right here on breaktime.
.... hey I asked almost the same question in 2007.. funny
I just had a good laugh when I noticed that I asked almost the same question back in 07. I asked it saying that I had to decide within a few hours, that was the funny part.
Since then I have bought and used and still use the PLS5 and the 180 etc.. we use them all, but we need a good ext rotary site. The dot is not useful for one man working around a site. Still deciding TODAY. another couple hours.
I found a self-leveling cross-line at the Home Depot (God I need to stop going there, the employees are clueless!) that has a pulse mode for detectors that would be just what I need. I bought a cheap manual rotary laser that ended up being off by a quarter inch over like 6 feet no matter what the bubble vials said, but at least I bought a decent detector to go with it. Now I need ANOTHER laser that I can trust to use outdoors for several siding installs coming up, including one at my house.
I forgot the brand name but the model is iMXT I think. Anyone ever tried one? I have a Bosch detector that at least worked really well with the cheap rotary that I am now replacing.
Follow-up: Ordered a pulse laser detector to go with the cross-line that I bought. Works really well, but got it a little late. LaserMark is the brand name, but I think Bosch ownes them now. Sold the Bosch rotary detector
The box says +or- 3/16" over 100ft. but I personally think that is wishful thinking. I'll bet its closer to double that. But it self-levels and I can use it outdoors so now I can layout the entire house for siding and get to work on that sidewalk. About $350 total after I include the tripod I bought. Quite a bit less than any other self-leveling kit that I could find.
