Good-day. I have a customer that has a deck that she wants me to screen in- no problem except the existing deck is 5/4 treated lumber with the usual 1/4″ space between boards. No room to get under although I don’t know that would help. Any thoughts on sheeting over the existing 5/4 decking with pressure treated plywood and covering with indoor/outdoor carpet. I don’t think she will invest in removing decking and replacing with t&g decking. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I've done this only once, but we put down a layer of 3/8 foam board(fanfold actually) first them sheathed over it with 3/4 T&G. The deck boards were warped enough that I though it would cause some problems with the T&G so I evened it out a little with the foam. This was 10 years ago, we still do occasional work for them, and all seems well.
Thanks for your thoughts.
As a general rule, you should avoid surface to surface as much as possible outdoors. Surface to surface traps water. This has been discussed in several articles in all of the trade mags.
PT is rot resistant. not rot proof.
Thanks for the input.
