I am a cabinetmaker involved in building a rather contemporary house. I have moved my shop into a building on the property and everything is up and running. One of the large jobs that is coming up is that an exterior portion of the house that is going to be finished in flat panels of plywood. I have been considering using marine grade plywood ship lapped on the top and bottom, splined on the sides, and screwed to the studs and blocking with stainless steel and plugs. The cleanliness and clarity of the material and crispness of the grid is of the utmost importance. Should I just use a penetration stain for the finish, or perhaps use something like a West System Epoxy? Again, I have a complete cabinet shop at my disposal including nifty spray equipment, so there are alot of options. Any suggestions about this project will be appreciated.

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

Hi,
did you ever do the ply siding? I'm also building a contemporary and was considering the same idea. What type of ply did you use? any problems?
