Hello,
I am building a house and in the long run would like to use wood panelling as a finished ceiling for most rooms. Some rooms I may put tin ceilings. I will not put the finished ceiling in soon, however, and want to move in by November-ish. (I will probably harvest the wood for the panelling from my forest here, maybe this upcoming winter.)
Until I have that panelling, I would like to have a ceiling while I occupy the house. I have heard of using a plywood subceiling to make it easier to attach tin ceilings. The thought occurred to me that the same would be true for wood panelling – I could just nail as I went, not having to worry about hitting the joists above, and feeling confident that the panelling would be more securely attached than if nailed into drywall (5/8″, say). I know plywood is more expensive. Otherwise, comments? (FYI, I plan to use plaster veneer walls, want eventually add lots of woodwork, including 3′ high wainscoting/chair rail, 4′ in baths.)
Thanks, Karl
