No.
Have used Bostich cleat flooring nailers - never a problem. I rent them here from HD - $100 a week.
They always seem to give me a practically new nailer since they know me at the rental department and also know I won't abuse their tool. It pays to know the "little guy"........
Cleats, a little oil now and again and 90 psi is all they ever seem to want.

Not to hijack this thread, but do you prefer cleats over staples? I'll be putting down some Brazilian Cherry pretty soon and have been mulling over cleats vs staples. It's going down over Advantech, so I thought that staples might hold better than cleats but I've heard that staples can split tongues in harder woods.
I put the Brazilian cherry down with cleats, with no problems. I have never used staple., so I don't know much about them.
I have used both cleat and staple. On bamboo, cherry, oak and ash I've never seen a problem w/staples splitting tongues
unless the air is too high and you're overdriving. Mostly seen w/bamboo and some engineered flooring.
or
you staple right up to the end of the board. This one has caused splits with cleats too.A Great Place for Information, Comraderie, and a Sucker Punch.

I do not have a first hand comparision to present pros or cons on staples vs cleats.
I've used cleats for oak, maple and reclaimed antique heart pine. Tongue splitting has not been an issue with any of these. All were legitimate 3/4" thick, T&G, solid wood - no engineered of any discription.

Never underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
Jim,
I have rented in the past but this nailer is only $199 and seems to use the Bostich cleats. Kevin
I bought one off amazon and really like it. I've put down about 1000 square feet of maple and I let a friend use it and he put down 2000 square feet of ash or hickory (can't remember) with it. No problems so far and it actually can shoot cleats or staples. I think I paid $179 for it new and home depot wanted $60 a day to rent. I was worried about it because it was so cheap but so far it has been great.
I bought the Ramsond Rmm4 whish is a clone of the Akuzuki. Iirc the handle is different. I had no problems with it. I did alot of research and shopping before I bought it.
I think both are made in made in China or Taiwan, and I suspect the Porter Cable is too. Look Very closely at the PC and the other nailers, the similarities are striking. I really wanted the PC but couldn't swing the 400 price.
The Ramsond shoots either staples or cleats, I used cleats on 3/4 t/g oak with no problem.
