I’ve searched the posts but can’t seem to find any reviews on air powered staple guns. I’m looking to buy one for shop use – attaching cab. backs, build up for counter tops and such.
I’m wondering which models are rugged and which are dogs.
Any thoughts…

Are we talking about 1/4" staples here?
I have had a Bostich fo 19 years now.
There are a several good ones that will last almost forever in a shop. Probably the most important thing you need to consider is the range of staple lenghts you might use. I sometimes wish mine went beyond the 1 1/8" max. that it has.
My Bostitch ( same age about) goes to 1 3/8THs, and is actually 7/32 wide IIRC. But yeah, great tool.
Bought the cap stapler as well, but it takes different staples thought I could just use the reg ones, but just a bit different.
Yep 1/4".
Porter Cable, 1/4" are cheap & pretty bullet proof.
Probably ebay one for $10 if you look.

I have the Bostitch narrow crown stapler. Love it!
I have a cheap DeVilbis Air Products set of brad gun and stapler I got years ago. Both have performed very well for the $79 I paid At Sam's. I reciently bought a Hitachi that will shoot longer staples that was "refurb", actually new but one of the plain looking ones before the "sneaker " look. It is great and I think I paid about $40 for it. The little DeV. has shot gobs of staples and earned its keep. Many sheets of luan underlayment.
I have an older Accuset that shoots 1 1/2" staples that has been great, bought it on Ebay 10 years ago. I use it for sidewall shingles when I can't get in there with a hammer, putting cab backs on, shooting my brother when he talks on his cell when he's supposed to be working...
Dont buy a Grizzley. Bought one just for cab. work.Didnt use it much. Less than probably 20 sticks of staples but a year later and the driver rod bust."Sorry" outta warrenty..go buy another.
I was "just looking" in Midland Tools (CAN version of whatever you have that sells just tools, up market and way, way, down) when I spied a clearance bin with some ugly green air tools in it.Got a 21* framing nailer for $28 and a 2"and down, narrow crown stapler for $12.Samoa is the brand but its on a decal so they might be called something else somewhere else.To the OP's query: those tools have built multiple decks, sheds and other homeowner stuff. The stapler has put cedar shingles on sidewalls of three sheds that I have done plus been loaned out a lot. Never a hitch and it works like new.I use premium fasteners like Bostich in it, oil it and clear my compressor of water but all I have is homeownwer stuff, no inline filters or the like.oh, plus the stapler came with a "kit" of repair parts, O rings and something that looks like it would be a piston? The framing nailer came with its own as well, nose pieces, O rings, etc.
Samona is a tool importer over near Boundary and 1st in Burnaby. They do retail as Summit Tools at that location. Some of their tools are good, some not so good; most aren't high end and all are "value priced". Their router bits are good quality, same manufacturer as Lee Valley I think.
thanks to everyone for your advice. i picked up a porter cable. i like it a lot. the rear exhaust is a nice feature.
thanks again.
