I am building a large pool house and have a question about paint for the ceiling. The pool will be kept at about 98 degrees, but always covered when not in use. (It’s a watsu pool, for massage, not swimming.) The room is large, over 21,000 cubic feet, and there will be an air-to-air heat exchanger controled by a humidistat. The manufacturer says this will make any problems with humidity minimal. The building is in Colorado, a very dry environment. So, we have put 1/2″ gypsum on the ceiling, which is the bottom of thick SIPs. Does anyone have a suggestion about the type of paint we should use, or any application techniques that might pertain. My clients would prefer a low VOC material.

Use a good oil based kitchen and bath paint. One with mold and mildew protection in it. You now can get this kind of paint in many different finishes. From eggshell to high gloss.
