I need to tie a new porch railing back into existing vinyl siding on the house. Due to the configuration, the railing will meet the house at the clapboard area of the siding and not at a corner. Does anyone have any ideas for how to attach the railing?

put a supporting post near the end of the rail and let it die before it hits the siding -
Get a 6 in. angle bracket from the hardware store. The rail will rest on the bracket. The first step is to mark on the vinyl where the bottom of the rail will be. Cut a slit in the vinyl that the bracket can fit through. Pop the bottom of that piece of vinyl free, and slide the bracket up behind it, and out through the slit. Bend the vinyl as needed for access, and screw the bracket to the house. Hopefully you've got blocking there. Pull the vinyl back into place, and caulk the slit. The place the railing on the bracket and screw it home. All done.
BTW, this can be easy or hard depending on where the bracket falls on the vinyl. When it works, it's slick. Other times, it's a pain in the nether regions.

I did what david mentioned. It made for a very strong railing. You could also end it into a split block or a Mini Mount Master.
