I’m looking for advise for a jobsite portable heater. I need to get 1,000-1,500 sq ft. minimum to a reasonable working temp (by my crew’s definition: 50 degrees min – 65-70 ideal).
A contractor friend has a kerosene fired 150,000 BTU tube type unit with a thermostat that does the job very well. I’m wondering if a propane unit would compare as far as initial heat up time, heat disbursement, purchase and operating costs, reliability, maintenance, safety issues etc.
Any recommendations?

A propane unit in torpedo form doesnt have the capibility of operating with a thermosat. Thus the popular choice of a torpedo still stands plus larger fuel reserves are easier. Set it and forget it with the fuel topped once a day. It will use less fuel if the house is kept at the same temp 24 hrs a day. The savings of labor cost keeping the area the same temp would be worth more fuel if that was the case. Both have fumes and add moisture to the air which is a negative to painting and drywall finishing.
