It seems to me that a few years back I saw an advertisement for a mortar mixer, that was basically a small gas (or electric) powered rototiller (like a mantis) that had special blades to mix mortar in a large flat pan. Has anyone else ever seen this, or is this another symptom of my slipping memory?

Wow, there it is. Has anybody ever used one? Seems like it would beat mixing mortar in a wheelbarrow with a hoe.

Ray,
That is a great tool if you use it often but what I use for under ten bucks is a spackle mixing paddle (like an oversized paint mixer) that you put in your drill. Its really great as long as you have a fairly strong drill. I just did a tile job of about 700 sq ft and mixed thinset to set the Wonderboard and mixed more thinset to set the tiles. Most important thing though is to add the water to your mixing pan or bucket FIRST then add the mortor or the thinset, later adding a bit more water (or addititive) as needed. Works like a charm.
