I was in a local lumber yard and noticed a Porter & Cable portable table saw. I”m in the market and this “looked like it would fit the bill. Any one out there know any more about this saw. I didn’t get a model number. It was on a seperatly puchased stand. Saw was approx $375 stand Approx $150.
Any info would be appreciated. Or some info on a good comperable portable table saw. $300 to $500 range.
thanks

You might try seaching the tools threads. Bosch and DeWalt both have similar models and Makita's with a Rouseau stand are ll in the same class and price range.
I have the DW now and will get the Bosch for my next one but the PC looks tempting too.
piffin- i've noticed from other posts that you've have the dewalt portable saw. as i , 3 1/2 yrs. have you had any trouble with it, i.e. an odor that comes and goes when ripping?? thanks bear
we looked at the bosch, bought the PC.. it weighs less and costs about $100 less

lol- that whole digestion subject got me a little queazy, sept. 11 is the date of my first colonoscopy(sp). there a friggin' joke in there some where. i have this vision of coming out of the local with ####couple quacks laughing zippering out there trousers. a true invasion. this gonna suck...............cheers gulp bear
An odor that comes and goes might be related to that colonoscopy joke...
But yeah! It can make that burning rubber/electrical smell. I always use a #10 cord too. so it's not power supply trouble from my end.
More of the trouble I've had is with the arbor and arbor nut. Bad design and bad metal. The table and fence is nice tho'Excellence is its own reward!
Bosch makes a great portable table saw, love mine.
Porta-cable just bought out somebody and that's who made the saw before them, Skill maybe? Use a Makita at work and its ok and I had a DeWalt until somebody thought that they needed it more than me so I got the Bosch and its great, wouldn't get anything else.

the first part of the message was pretty funny.... i 've never told i'm fulla s**t quite like that before . thanks........; )
Some guys a while back were shoutin' proud about Rigid's portable on a wheel stand table saw, 2400 model I think. I was pretty tempted 'cause I'm in the market. Then someone gave some rave reviews over an older dewalt model with a screw type adjustment for the fence which really got me drooling, but never got the specs for it.

it's the only portable DeWalt makes!
spec's.....we don't need no stinking spec's.......
DW744.........there...yer lucky I had a Tool Crib sitting here on the computer stand......btw....I got mine thru tool crib...recond....for $430.........firts one they sent had a crooked box with a crooked saw table in it...as part of the mail back and exchange...I cried enough they sent along the dado throat plate for free!
I'm gonna see this week if the ridgid stand fits the dewalt...a buddy at work has the ridgid set up......stand looks pretty nice....and has wheels.......

Dan, I like the Bosch 10" with collapsable stand. I found the Dust Bag not really doing much more than clogging up the port, but with a vac attached, most of the dust is captured. Fence operates well and remains true. Doesn't bog down on hardwoods or framing lumber. Try one out.

Dan, I have the bosh and its pretty nice, but I think its to heavy. I wish Dewalt or somebody would make a saw with the same great fence set up but in a smaller version I bet they would sell a bunch!
I got the Dewalt for Chirstmas , nearing its 2ond year . I got the folding stand thrown in . I really like the saw a lot. If I was looking to buy today I would look at the Bosch.
But then I switched from makita to dewalt drills for no apparent reason .

If your looking for the Dewalt, Harbor Freight has them reconditioned for about $380, free shipping. I have the Makita 2703 ( newer 10") with a Skil stand ( about the same thing as the Rousseau stand).
Love the Makita except the fence leaves a little to be desired ( needs to be checked for alignment). But with the stand its great.

I got the Makita. Very lightweight and easy to carry. Cuts a full 3-1/2 inch thick in one pass. I don't have an aftermarket stand (like the Rouseau) and sure wish I did. I use the stand that came with the saw ( just slip a couple of carriage bolts to hold saw and stand in place when at the jobsite), but this doesn't give you any more ripping capacity like the aftermarket stands. Without a stand like the Rouseau, you only have 12 inch rip capacity....no darn good. Buy the aftermarket stand if you buy the Makita.

I can't telll you much about the saw but I have two DeWalt saws mounted on the KwikStand. They make a great set up. The stand cost about as much as the one you mentioned, but includes built-in outfeed support and big wheels for moving around the job site. You can check the stand out at http://www.kwikstand.info

I've been looking for one too and http://www.rockler.com has the Porter Cable, including the stand, for $399.00 plus shipping.......that sounds like a pretty good deal.....
