I am about to refinish my red oak flooring in my apartment. It will be about 300 square feet. I am a tool junky and would like to buy a small tool for this job. Does anyone have experience with the Porter Cable Paint Remover. This looked like an adequate tool for the job. Or should I just rent equipment? I’ve never re finished any flooring. But I am an adequate wood worker. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I think I'd look into renting a floor sander instead of using a small tool like the paint stripper. You'll get done a lot faster and you'll have better results. Hope that helps out a bit - Nick
*I just finished sanding an old oak floor of about the same size. I rented an 8 inch drum sander from Home Depot - a lever-operated machine with the name "Alto" (but the first letter was a delta). The machine worked quite well, and I will certainly rent it again. However, this type of machine will definitely gouge a substantial hole in your floor if you ever stop moving it with the drum still turning. For those who are more faint-hearted, a large square-pad sander can be rented. Please consider looking at the Taunton Press book on floor installation and finishing; the accompanying video is very helpful, too. My library had both.As I understand it, the PC paint remover is for stripping the paint off siding.
*I would recommend against it. It would be difficult not to gouge the floor. (It's hard enough to control that thing on siding, for which it was designed.)
