I am looking for those who have experience with the Porter-Cable circular saw. I am purchasing another saw and I am looking at the left handed pc. I am right handed but I feel that there will be a real advantage to having the blade on the left hand side, better view of cut. I really don’t see any disadvantages other than the left hand holding the material to be cut may be a little closer to business end of saw.
Are there any righties who use this saw and what do you think of it?
thanks

I'm a righty and have a left handed Porter cable. I like it, you can stand right over the line like you say, it's a lot more conveniant. Excelent saw.
I use one because, as the user of a wormdrive a lot of the time, I'm used to the blade on the left side. I also keep a couple of other sidewinders around because it's nice to be able to swing angle cuts from opposite directions.
The PC saw has been OK so far.
Got the little one, I like it. Joe H
I know you should all the time anyway, but make sure you are wearing your safety glasses. With the better view comes more projectiles. I really like everything pc I have bought.

Mako,
The leftblade pc is awesome, lightweight powerful and I have found alot more accuturate, because I don't have to lean over the saw to see a cut line. That one and a sawboss make a teriffic pair. I guess there are still physical, and material situations in which it would be good to have a right blade, but from now on I will always go for the left blade first.

Got one, did my usual and bought it from Amazon in the reconditioned tool area. Love it. Great saw. Only $100. DanT
Thanks, for the input. I went out tonight and picked up the saw. I think it will take a little getting used too.
One thing I forgot to mention that you might consider, now that you've got the saw;
When I first got mine, I was annoyed by the square front edge of the base that would catch on any little bump. Most saws have a rolled up front edge on the foot, like a ski, so they ride over such things; like when you're trimming, say, a run of sheathing where the sheathing joints aren't perfectly flush (they've swelled a little, or whatever). So I filed a slight bevel on the leading edge...problem solved.
Have fun!
And that brings up another point. The base ["square edge"] is cast - not stamped steel. Therefore you can use a thin piece of straight metal as a straight edge and the base won't ride up over it.

My 2 cents º
The blade on the left is made for righties. One of the few niceties us southpaws have had all these years was the advantage of a clear sightline on the right-bladed circular saws.
I absolutely love the sawdust deflector. I almost feel compelled to get some 1" tubing to hook it up to the dust collector. ;-)
Im a PC nut, I will buy other tools, but always like PC, I have the 7 1/4 and the 6" saw boss both of them are leftys and I am right handed, work great for me with no problems the saw boss is 6 years old and the 7 1/4 is 2 they both still run like new
