Don, I've only worked with concrete in warmer climes, however, it would seem to me that the major factor in your situation would be the drainage of the existing walkway. If it's slightly above grade and without depressions to hold water between the two materials, you may be OK. I'm sure there are others who are much more conversant with your conditions who can opine based on actual experience in those conditions. In any event, good luck with your project.
