Does anybody own or know about the Powermatic 12″ portable planer? The tool crib sells it. Looks like a nice machine and its cheaper and lighter than the DeWalt. It uses two sided disposable blades. Comments?

I've got one Tony -- Wish I'd bought the Makita, or the DeWalt, or the Delta, or the Rigid. The Powermatic is OK if you don't mind screws vibrating loose. It leaves a decent finish, better than any stationary planer that I've ever used. But I've had the chance to try out all of those others and they are more thoughtfully designed. See Michael Standish's review of portable planers in FHB 136 for a more thorough discussion.

*I used a 10" Ryobi for several years and replaced it with a Ridgid late last year. Works well, no regrets, but I have no experiencxe with the powermatic.
