My wife and I are having a hard time coming up with a decision on siding. We are at the stage of having the house framed (1800 sq ft. raised bungalow with walkout at rear. Our front facade faces a street in a neighborhood and the rear faces a lake. We decide to brick the front and all the way around the garage. for the 3 sides toward the lake we will use siding. We want a board and batten style. The prefinished stuff, such as maibec, goodfellow and macmillan bloedell seem to add up to the cost of brick! The warranty says up to 25 years, but if you read the fine print it seems they only warrant any labour for 5 years and after that they give you touch up paint for areas that have problems. Has anyone used these products 5 or more years ago, and how have they held up for you. Is it worth the cost? Should I just buy sawn 1×12 and put a finish on it myself? We want a lakehouse look, but not too rustic. Thanks for any advise. Jim and Judy

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.
