I have 70 yr old house and am completing enclosure of screened porch. Had old proch torn off and new structure built. Where old floor meets new I have a problem area. Old sub floor is diagonal fir 1×8 and new subfloor is 3/4 ply. Contrator did his best but one area about 4′ long has significant dip. I installed 1/4 luan underlayment and tried to fair this problem area with shims but the dip remains although not as bad. I am putting down 3 5/8″ bamboo hardwood and I’m looking for input on how I can fair out this dip. The floor finisher says his sander will tear up this area because the dip is too severe. The problem area is about 4′ long and about 2′ wide centered along the length. The dip is almost 1/4″ at max depth. I’ve tried to fair the higher areas around the dip somewhat with a power planer but I’m worried about creating other problems. Is there something I can use to fill the recessed area before I put down 15lb paper and the bamboo??
