Prepping and finishing wide pine floors
I have roughly 1500 sq ft of wide pine flooring to install and finish. I plan to use rosin paper and cut nails face nailed. What type of sander should I rent, orbital or drum, and to what grit. I am going to read the article in the latest FH to get ideas about finishes. Anyone have any other thoughts? I believe that the Homeowner would like it stained.

First, use the advanced search featu4re here to look at past threads on this subject. It will save me an hour of typing.
Seconmd, besure - absolutely so, to have this wood aclimated to the room where it will be installed. This usually take 2-3 weeks drying with stickers.
Third - what are the site conditions? New house? Old house?
Over damp crawlspace? What sort of heat and of subfloor?
Questions about sanding are way down the road, after we get past preparation and installation.
Here's a few shots to tease them with

What Piff said...I kinda get tired of writing the same thing over and over. Use the search feature first.
Just wait till you try and sand the floor. Have fun...lol. Count on getting on your hands and knees with a hand sander after your done using a drum sander.
If I were to do it again I'd try and do as little sanding as possible. My floors came beautifully milled right from the mill. If only I could work in my socks and not get them dirty I might have gotten away with a light screening just to get the mill haze off.
I did just about my entire house with Eastern white pine wide plank. From 6" to 22" wide.
You better be charging them plenty. If you've never done it before....its a lot trickier than you might imagine!
Be well

You finish the pine with oil?
No, I didn't use oil as my finish. I wanted a harder finish so I went ahead and applied a first coat of high gloss poly then two top coats of a satin poly. Its a total matte finish and it really does look great. Doesn't have a plastic looking finish what so ever. In my living room I did use the oil and I hated it. Hate how it wears and its pretty difficult to apply to boot but thats not the reason I didn't keep going with it. I just didn't like how it wears under major traffic. I must have put on more than a half dozen coats too.
Here's a few not so great pics. The bedroom floor is still wet with poly.
If you need some clear shots I can take some more but it'll cost ya : )http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yV460jyubzII have dreamt of an open world, borderless and wide... where the people move from place to place, and nobody's taking sides.. http://www.yusufislam.com
