Anyone have a good method of preparing galvanized roof flashings for painting? I’d like to get a prime coat on them before I shingle to ensure full coverage.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Jim

That's the same formula my grandfather used before painting his gutters.

It was a gutter pro that had told me what to do for galv along time ago.
Guess it's the correct way to go.
Worked great.
I believe I bought some spray primer that was especially for Gal metal at Lowes.
Thanks guys!
Now that you've mentioned it, I do remember the vinegar thing.

Why not use prepainted steel? It will last a lot longer.
I have used a fine wire wheel to give the metal some "tooth", then wiped it down with solvent prior to priming.
How does the vinegar solution work?
Garett
Did the vinegar with just a drop of soap as a surfactant. in a bucket of water. Then another wash with clear water. Then a primer designed for galvanized metal (2 coats). Then 2 coats of outdoor latex enamel..Those babies look fine and shed water like a duck.(Vinegar is a slight acid and cuts the oils on the metal - so I was told by an old gutter guy)
