I am about to replace a basement jalousie window with a double pane sash. In trimming the sash to fit I see the wood is soft and light colored, probably pine. I anticipate this window will get wet only with very heavy rains, yet I am concerned about this wood rotting. What is the preferred treatment (linseed oil, Thompsons, paint, etc) to protect this wood from moisture damage? Also, could paint be applied over this treatment?
