Especially in nice antiques or Stickley/craftsman/Arts and crafts stuff.
Some pinky pointing knots types disdain oak as hard to work with and to pedestrian, but I love it when it is used right.

Nice, though I can't understand why anyone would paint oak. Might as well use poplar, though the grain texture wouldn't be as interesting. Counter solid suface? Like the drain grooves in the sink.
I never met a tool I didn't like!
