   I new somebody would throw in a clap joke at least he had some good advice to go with it. I get $200.00 a square to put up cedar claps that's why everybody uses vinyl, much cheaper and vinyl is final( yea right ) at least they are saving the forests!

   To Rick Thanks for your help, and your right vinyl is final but it is so damn ugly. Is there any product out there that looks as good as claps but would allow us not save all those cedar trees?

   *Dan,Cheap, plain homes look "cheap and plain" to me whatever the siding.And to me the opposite applies to more "interestingly or intricately" designed homes. The siding can look great to me whether its money saving t 1-11, vinyl or cedar that happens to look like crap on the sunny side of most homes in my area. And painting, you do it or you pay $1000s for a contractor to do it every 5 years.Certainteed and other manufacturers sell very nice vinyl. It's not the stuff you find at the local "big box" supply.I like wood,I like vinyl, and I think I'll like the "Hardi Plank" types.Jack : )

   *FIBER CEMENT!!!!!More dimensionally stable, holds paint better, goes on quicker (if you use a gun), cheaper, comes preprimed and prepainted, won't split - warp or dent, fireproof, no exposed nails, 'greener'............Only downside is it's heavier.I'm in Southern NE too and when we do regular cedar claps hand nailed with SS ring shanks we charge by the square $65 to $75 depending on access and staging. Sometimes more. 2 to 3 guy crews work best. 1 cutter and 1 or 2 nailing...See FHB 112 for clapboarding. Watch your drainage plane detailing for a weather-proof house.

   I'm bidding a whole house remodel and need some advice on square foot pricing for cedar claps, I have done this inthe past by estimating how much material can be applied in a day but I though that there may be a dollar range per square foot? I work in Southern N.E. any advice would be helpful. Thanks
