I own a 1914 Craftsman bungalow in Georgia that has a great front porch. the distance between the houses on either side is less than 25 feet. I am seeking some privacy and would like to add some type of sceen on either side of the porch. While visiting Florida, I’ve notice that some homes have wooden shutters that open up laterally from the bottom. Does anyone know any source for this type of shutter, or have any other solutions that would keep in character with the home. I’ve thought alot about lattice but don’t think I would be happy with the end result.

Can't comment on Florida style shutters. . .but don't rule out lattice, just rule out the tacky stuff they sell at your local.
Make your own out of thicker material, say 1/2" or 5/8"thick X 1"wide. Look for a Japanese style design that breaks up the squares by staggering the horizontal lines, or create "squares" and then shift the verticals and horizontals to create a less static design. American Craftsman design was greatly influenced by Japanese design where slight changes are preferred over goo-gaw!!

Post this question again over on the main board, or under construction techniques and you might get some more ideas!!!-pm
