Can't help except for the obvious, try fresh batteries...
Fresh batteries never fix the problem -- why don't you guys ever suggest trying stale batteries?
If your view never changes you're following the wrong leader
You only use stale batteries to make stuffing or salad toppings. For robots.Rebuilding my home in Cypress, CA

I never suggest stale batteries because they always leave a funny taste in my mouth.
did you try some fresh batteries?
I did, no such luck though.
Did you call PLS?A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

I did ,but they just said to send it in or bring it to service. I was thinking their might be something to check myself first.
I don't know man, I think sending it in might have produced the answer quicker than us guys. Barring a battery problem (even put in backwards by accident) there's not much us laymen can do w/o opening the case and really screwing things up.

send it back or find a local repair shop. those things only come with a 1 year warranty so you have to pay either way. they are very good lasers but they are notorious for going out of whack if not properly taken care of.

You're not kiddin'. I've got a pls 5 that I always babied, worked great.
One day it slipped from my grip and dropped 2' to a carpeted floor. Knocked it completely out of adjustment.
They wanted $200 to reset a $300 tool. Said it had to be sent back to pls.
Makes a nice paperweight now...buic

Sucks about your PLS5.
I have a Hilti. Excellent warranty. Repair cost not to exceed 30% cost of tool. Wow.

I've used the hilti 3 beam on different jobs. Nice laser, accurate, compact...buic
I just dropped my PLS 2 off at the local repair shop on thursday. It powered up but no light. They said it needed new optics (ie. the bulb). $140 to repair.

My PLS 2E has had the horizontal beam become progressively dimmer to the point where it isn't visible except in a dark room. Of course it waited until it was *just* out of warrantee to do this.
We have an electronics re-work station at the office, so I decided to look up how much a replacement laser would cost. I hadn't opened the PLS, so I don't know who supplies their laser, but the laser line modules that I found started at around $50 a crack. When you factor in alignment, $140 doesn't sound like such a bad deal.
Anyway, I sent an e-mail to PLS and they took pity on me and warranteed it for me. Stand up guys, IMHO.
I probably should have contacted PLS before I dropped it off at the local shop. Mine was way out of warranty but maybe their service rates may have been better. $140 seemed a little steep but still appreciably less than a new laser.John
