I just resurrected a Porter Cable 6902 fixed base Router from the dead. It belonged to my father and needed some work like a new subbase, cord, and measuring ring. Can someone tell me now that I bought the new ring with visible calibration numbers how does it work. View Image I do not know what on the router motor to use as a reference point so that I know how far I have lowered the router bit? Where can I get a manual also?View Image

Set the depth to zero. Make your mark on the base and go from there.
Who ever invented work didn't know how to fish....
Contact PC for a manual. I am too lazy to dig mine up, but I don't think that there is realy anything in it.
The ring is only for realive reference. Look on the side of the router there is is a vertical line. Use that as your reference.
Here is on example of it use. If you are doing a dado then lower the router until the bit just touches the surface. Then move the ring until Zero is at the reference line.
Then twist the router until the line is at 3-8 (3/8's) and the router will cut 3/8" depth.
I have the manual and it's pretty basic stuff, the most important of which IMERC and Bill have already related. No surprises, just how to change bits and how to do simple routing. Not even a parts listing, which I consider the most important part of any manual. If you can't live without it and can't find it elsewhere, I could scan it and email it to you.
Thank you for your reply. There is no need to scan the manual. It is unfortunate PC manual are not as good as their tools.
Peace
There are a ton of router books out there. Bill Hylton, Pat Warner and a number of others.
They will show you how to use the router, vs just how to put a bit in and 3 pages telling you not to run it while in the swimming pool.
